Dance Dance Recession?
So I picked up the two Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party games for my Wii. Played through volume one, which promises “Smash Hit Songs” on the back of the game box. Now, having over a dozen DDR games for multiple systems, I’m used to some original tracks by original artists, but predominantly cheesy house and hi-NRG cover versions. But Konami has gone completely cheap, giving not ONE single original track by the original artist! You mean to tell me Ace of Base wasn’t willing to give up the rights to “The Sign” for some pocket cash? CeCe Peniston couldn’t use even a little bit of loose change for “Finally”? JoJo wasn’t willing to get at least some royalties for “Too Little Too Late”? And Pete Burns wasn’t desperate enough to get at least a little bit of plastic surgery money for “You Spin Me Round”? He’s whored that song out for 25 years, rerecording it every five years or so for some quick bux! Yet what we get here is a cover version by a group with the butched up name of M.A.N. ! What an insult to drag queens everywhere!
BUT, overlooking all those rather bad cover versions, DDR has hit an all-time low with the ‘cover’ version of Disco Inferno on this disc. O…M…G. This classic dance tune with one of the most sizzling bass lines ever sounds here like it has been recorded by a wedding band. No joke. NO ONE kills a good dance song more than a wedding band. Forget Disco Inferno. The version here should be called Disco Damnation.
