Size does matter…so give me the smallest you’ve got!

It’s been my experience that the size and shape completely changes the way it tastes. For instance, a standard thin Nestles Crunch Bar tastes nothing like Nestle Crunch Christmas Bells. It has to do in large part to the density of the chocolate and the ratio of chocolate to whatever other goodies are thrown into the mix.

Therefore, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups taste different than the small festive holiday colored foil wrap cups taste different than ‘Big Cups’ taste different than Reese’s pumpkins or Reese’s Christmas trees or Reese’s Valentine’s Hearts or Reese’s Easter Bunnies.

To add to the many ways you can enjoy the two great tastes that go great together as the seasons change, Reese’s has introduced the Minis—which are each about the size of a Rolo. And considering how fricking amazing Minis are, it’s such a joy that they are all just thrown naked into a bag rather than individually dressed, so there’s no clawing away at obnoxious garb before you can satiate your need for another climactic salty/sweet explosion of in your mouth (But just to be clear, I still wouldn’t kick a Big Cup out of bed….).

The peanut butter in Reese’s Minis is the same classic, salty, gritty textured peanut butter that is in original Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, but the difference is, because these come in such small bursts, you don’t experience the excessive density that makes it a challenge to pound down more than two standard cups (which you do anyway and then feel sick to your stomach). Somehow, these smaller cups actually TASTE lighter. Polishing off an entire eight ounce bag is no problem. The Minis practically melt at the mere touch of your teeth. You can even lay one on your tongue and easily squish it into a perfect peanut butter/chocolate pancake by pressing your tongue to the roof of your mouth. Wow. However, I’d say that the peanut butter is a much more prominent taste–in other words, it somewhat overpowers the chocolate, but not much since the Minis are so small anyway. It’s all the more reason to chase one down with another, you know–to get more chocolate into the mix.

Imagine the possibilities—baking Reese’s Minis into chocolate-chocolate chip cookies. Pressing them into the chocolate frosting on top of golden cupcakes. Making a double-layer cake with a Reese’s Minis filling. Mixing them into homemade chocolate ice cream. Stacking them on top of a Reese’s Big Cup then opening wide to gobble down the whole creation!

Okay. Now I’m going to puke. Luckily, it will taste just like Reese’s Minis.

So since this has less pb (which I hate) I should actually be able to eat these and not puke?

  2. Daniel says:

alas, no. i’ve updated my post to clarify—there’s less peanut butter because they are smaller, however, the ratio of PB to chocolate is not balanced, so peanut butter is the stronger flavor here.

I loved your snack creations with the Reese’s Minis. I can’t wait to try out a Reese’s Mini on top of a chocolate Magnolia Cupcake.
