Oh…Em…Gee. What are the chances of what happened today? As always, I get my dogs on their leashes and we step out my front door. Now, my dogs are SO good at listening and staying near me…except when there’s a cat in the vicinity! I reach to close my front door and suddenly there are no leashes in my hand! There go my pups chasing a gray cat with white paws out from under my car in the driveway, across the lawns of my neighbors. I’m expecting disaster as they dart towards one of these fences:
My eyes couldn’t even process what happened. I think one dog went over the entire fence while the other leapt smoothly between the two horizontal beams, or maybe one dog went under and the other between. I’m not even sure. My emotions were so mixed—hugely proud of their agility, yet horrified that this cat didn’t stand a chance. Luckily, the next fence is a solid six foot wood fence that the cat scaled over.
Seems like enough excitement for one day, right? So we take our long stroll through the park and then come back up my block. As always, just as we reach my driveway, I drop their leashes, knowing they will simply run right to the front door and wait for me, because, as I said, my dogs are SO good at listening and staying near me…except when there’s a cat in the vicinity! Are you fricking kidding me? There goes a black cat out from under my car, and there go my dogs, once again somehow managing to make it to the other side of that fence at top speed. Now, this dang black cat was much slower than the gray cat from eariler, and I was really concerned about what kind of superstitious bad luck you suffer when your dogs maul a black cat…
Luckily, the cat got away and my dogs came running back to me grinning floppy ear to floppy ear.
