No, this is not an ode to the Schoolhouse Rock noun segment. This will be my first posting of daily situations that irk me (situations to which many can probably relate) and reminds me that those who believe people are inherently good are REALLY ignorant!
Let’s begin with the biggie. Okay, every December, the band The Killers releases a Christmas single, with all proceeds going to AIDS charities. Unfortunately, I only learned about this the second year, so I’ve been collecting ever since. But I never managed to score a copy of the quickly out-of-print first single from 2006. Now, let’s face it. The label should keep this item in print as long as possible if it’s going to benefit charity. That being said, some of the biggest pricks on the planet are those independent merchants on sites like Amazon and Half.com who are now selling this ONE SONG CD single for upwards of 100 dollars—you know, money that WON’T be going to the charities for which it was recorded and distributed. I guess if these sellers don’t make a profit off the out-of-print status, someone else would. So what does that remind us? That people are inherently NOT so good.
Next, we have this driver I encountered on my way to work the other day, and any driver in general, who thinks that the way to pull onto a main road from an entrance ramp is to gun it without ever looking to see if the coast is clear before merging into traffic. The be-otch who almost demolished me the other day as I was cruising along the main road right near my job was gunning it around the curved entrance ramp. This is a very short ramp in general, but on this particular day, it just happened to be much shorter and much narrower on account of a utility truck, orange cones, and workers pooled at the end of it. Didn’t stop this be-otch from hovering nowhere NEAR her brake pedal as she whipped around the curve and almost directly into the side of my car. You know when you have those moments when you think ‘let this fucker hit me. I don’t care who dies’? I had one of those. I guess my fate was in her hands and I should be thanking her. Because I didn’t slow up, and she finally decided it would be best to come to a screeching halt. That be-otch is inherently NOT so good.
Then, there was yesterday, when I pulled into the parking lot at my local grocery store, saw an ideal spot right up front, and turned to pull into it, only to find that some A-hole had left an empty cart in the spot. See it all the time, right? Well, one more point. The ideal spot was also RIGHT next to one of those mini-cart ports that house all the carts. Clearly, people are inherently NOT good. Yet, fate sometimes seems to be on their side. Not a year ago, there was another cart incident at the same grocery store. I was pushing my cart of groceries to my car, once again parked right next to a cart port, when I see some A-hole parked on the other side of me, who had just finished emptying his cart of groceries into his trunk, discard his cart RIGHT BEHIND my car!!! I thought karma’s payback had been placed in my hands by allowing me to witness the atrocity. As he was getting in his car, I took his now empty cart and pushed it right behind HIS car. I felt so vindicated! Now HE would have to be the one to get out of his car to move the wheeled obstruction before pulling out of his spot! Imagine how simply agog I was when I watched the A-hole drive forward…because there was NO car parked in the spot facing his car. WTF??? Fate can be so cruel.
Those are my gripes of the week. Stay tuned, because as long as there’s a day to get through, there will be plenty more people, places and things to prove that people are inherently NOT good…
