Every time I try to stay away from chocolate and caffeine for any amount of time, my eyes will catch sight of a ‘new!’ or ‘limited edition!’ label in a grocery store or in a vending machine at work.
Well, that’s what happened this week. Nestle Crunch is “Now Richer and Creamier Milk Chocolate!” I immediately purchased two. You know, just in case it was really good. And it was. It made me remember how Nestle Crunch USED to taste, just the way Pepsi Throwback brought me back to the days of little puppies mauling a little boy in the grass while Barry Manilow sang a Pepsi jingle. Now Richer and Creamier Milk Chocolate Nestle Crunch is delicious, creamy, sweet, and chocolate fabulous. For the last few years, I hadn’t found myself reaching for Nestle Crunch ever, and had assumed somehow my taste buds had changed, making it no longer a favorite. Guess it was actually some sneaky sort of change in ingredients the company hadn’t warned us about.
Just like Hershey’s—always my least favorite chocolate, but much worse over the last few years because—I actually saw a news report on television about this—Hershey’s, to save money, has stopped using milk chocolate in many of its candies, and just chocolate flavoring instead! Now, if you look at the wrappers, it will either say “milk chocolate” on the front, OR “chocolate candies” if they don’t use real milk chocolate. Sadly, Almond M&Ms, one of my favorites, are “chocolate candies.” Who cares? Nestles will always get my vote over Hershey’s anyway. It’s so much better quality chocolate if there are no Dove bars around. The only way I can eat Hershey’s is if it has something in it like caramel, peanuts, almonds or peanut butter. I don’t touch plain milk chocolate Hershey’s bars or—blech—plain Hershey’s kisses.
But really, I do not in any way get paid endorsements from Nestle. And just to prove it, I’ll let you in on a little secret. While I think Nestle’s Toll House slice n’ bake cookies blow Pilsbury out of the water when they are baked, for some strange reason, raw Nestle Toll House slice n’ bake cookie dough can not compare to the perfection that is raw Pilsbury slice n’ bake cookie dough.
