Mars made a Mega Mistake!

Between mini M&Ms, Almond M&Ms, Dark Chocolate M&Ms and Mega M&Ms, the Mars candy corporation made it impossible for me to ever want a plain milk chocolate M&M again. I can only hope they don’t take away minis and dark chocolate, because I can’t bare the thought of having to resort to plain M&Ms.

Which is why I was so sad when, about a year ago, I was having friends over for the weekend and found the Mega M&M slot in my local grocery store completely empty. My mind went immediately into denial, insisting they were just sold out and would absolutely be restocked in a few days.

Of course, I couldn’t wait. I drove around to a bunch of stores that always carried them, but no one had them. The truth was quickly rearing its ugly head. It seemed Mega M&Ms and Mega Peanut M&Ms had been discontinued. WHY??? WHY???

If you never had an opportunity to try Mega M&Ms, let me tell you—pure heaven. Not only were they about 50% bigger than plain milk chocolate M&Ms and peanut M&Ms, I believe they also used better quality chocolate than the crap they use for standard M&Ms. And the extra burst of chocolate because of the larger size made ALL the difference. It was a milk chocolate M&M that could actually compete with the flawless dark chocolate M&Ms. In fact, I used to mix a bowl of Megas and Dark Chocolates together for a unique experience at parties. I called my creation Blend&Ms.

But, as usual, a huge money-making corporation had to play the ‘limited edition’ game—this time without even warning us! So Mega M&Ms are nothing more than a memory. And I think I know who’s to blame for the abolished treats. Candy reviewers all over the net. You don’t know how many candy ‘critics’ blasted Mars for putting a larger candy on the market when our country is so fat and doesn’t need bigger sweets. Fricking extremists who want to believe they are so concerned about our society as a whole will say anything without thinking about the truth of what they are saying. Were the candies bigger? Yes. Was the bag the candies came in bigger than a bag of plain M&Ms? NO. The bags were the same exact size. So logic dictates that not as MANY Mega M&Ms could fit in the same size bag! It was the SAME EXACT amount of candy, just distributed differently! It’s like buying a regular bag of M&Ms and getting a couple that fused together during their creation, which end up looking like a colorful, candy-coated nut sack (which it actually is when you’re eating peanut M&Ms!). Even if ALL the standard size M&Ms in a bag were paired off and fused together (which is about the size of a Mega M&M), you’d STILL be eating the same amount of candy. DUH!

Get a bag of dark chocolate peanut M&Ms and hunt through it for the fused ones, pop them in your mouth, and you’ll taste exactly why Mega M&Ms were a beautiful thing—and why they should have added Dark Chocolate Mega M&Ms to the roster instead of taking away ANY Mega M&Ms!
